How to Deactivate and Reactivate a User in Strety

Learn how to deactivate a user in Strety from Adminland, manage items they own, and reactivate the user later without losing their data.

Written by Dan Lapuz

When someone leaves your organization, deactivate their user in Strety rather than deleting them, so you keep a record of their data. This guide covers how to prepare for deactivation, deactivate a user from Adminland, manage the items they owned, and reactivate the user later if needed.

Required permissions

To deactivate or reactivate a user, you need one of the following roles:

  • Account Owner

  • Admin

Before you deactivate a user

Before you deactivate a user, review their Person Space. A Person Space shows every item the user owns or is assigned across all teams and meetings, so you can reassign those items to another user or move them to another space. To learn how to open a Person Space or get access to one, read How to Provide Access to Secret and Person Spaces (HR Permission).

Important: Move any items that live in the user's Person Space to another space before you deactivate the user, so they stay accessible after deactivation.

Managing items assigned to deactivated users

After you deactivate a user, any items assigned to them stay visible on their respective team pages. The owner's avatar appears greyed out, and a "deactivated" label shows on hover.

For each item assigned to the deactivated user, take one of the following actions:

  • Reassign the item: Choose this to keep tracking the item with a new owner who is accountable for it.

  • Archive the item: Choose this when you no longer need to actively track the item. Archived items stay viewable from any space they belong to.

  • Delete the item: Choose this when you no longer need to track the item or keep a historical record of it.
