How to Set-Up and Access 1:1 Meetings

A 1:1 agenda will be automatically generated for every Manager & Direct Report pairing. For more on how to assign Direct Reports, check out this article

Once you have your Manager-Direct Report relationships established, all the 1:1 agendas you are a part of - either as the Manager or Direct Report - can be accessed from your Homepage

You can also access the 1:1 agenda for anyone you have access to from the agendas tab in their Person Space

How to build your 1:1 agenda

Click into the Active Agenda, click Add in the left pane, and begin to build your agenda. You can begin adding Custom Agenda Items & Tools or use a template as a starting point

Adding Custom Agenda Items

Custom Agenda Items are designed for those topics you want to discuss in every 1:1 meeting. They are automatically set as recurring and you can see the comment & note history from past meetings around the topic, making it simple and easy to review the ongoing conversation from meeting to meeting

Note: You can toggle off recurring if you decide you no longer want to discuss the agenda item going forward or opt to use Custom Agenda Items as one-off topics

Adding Tools to 1:1s

Tools represent the data components - or items - an individual can be assigned - To Dos, Rocks, Scorecards, Issues, or Headlines. When adding a tool to your 1:1, you bring in all the items shared with the Direct Report's Person Space into the agenda for a review/discussion. For more on Person Spaces, check out this article

We recommend incorporating all tools into your 1:1s; this provides a greater opportunity for specific feedback & guidance than a team meeting may allow. The tools also include any Personal items, like Rocks or To Dos assigned to the Direct Report that are not shared with a team

Best Practices: Using Custom Agenda Items vs Issues or Headlines

Strety is purpose-built as an adaptable platform that allows organizations, teams, and managers run meetings their preferred way - how you choose to build & run your 1:1 agendas are a great showcase of that flexibility. However, we do have recommendations for how to best leverage each tool in your 1:1s for maximum impact:

  • Custom Agenda Items: We recommended these for recurring agenda items - topics you want to discuss each time you meet

  • Issues: We recommend creating Personal Issues to discuss any one-off or ad-hoc topics that represent questions or challenges. Why? Because you gain the benefit of having an option to add Resolution Notes and/or assigning linked To Dos to the Issue, increasing accountability & context to the Issue

  • Headlines: We recommend creating Personal Headlines for any quick announcements or DYK's you want to inform one another about. Typically these require little to know follow-up and are meant to be checked-off in each meeting

In the above screenshot, we show how to create a Personal Issue (or Personal Headline) by assigning it to a Person Space (rather than a team). By assigning it to the Direct Report's Person Space, it allows it to be discussed privately in the Issues section of the 1:1 agenda until resolved

Completed 1:1s

Once you complete a 1:1, both the Manager and Direct Report will receive an email summary of the agenda that includes all high-level details including Issues Resolved, Headlines Discussed, and the meeting Ratings

You can also access all past 1:1 summaries from the Agenda tab in the Direct Report's Person Space
