How to Use External Users in Strety with Clients and Contractors

Learn how to use External Users in Strety to collaborate with clients, contractors, and outside partners while limiting access.

Written by Derek Weaver

External Users help you collaborate with clients, contractors, and other outside partners in Strety without giving them access to your full organization. Use External Users when you need a shared space for recurring client meetings, QBRs, onboarding projects, Rocks, Issues, To Dos, and other team-level work.

What External Users can access

External Users have access only to the team or teams they are assigned to. They cannot view company-level or organization-level information, including Company Rocks, Company Vision, or the Roles Chart.

External Users cannot:

  • Create or conduct 1:1 meetings because they do not have a manager

  • Send Issues to other teams

  • Cascade Messages to other teams

  • Invite the AI Assistant for Agendas into Active Agendas

  • Have Admin rights

Within their assigned team or teams, External Users have full functionality. You can set up L10s or Custom Meetings with clients, such as QBRs. External Users can also assign or be assigned Rocks, Scorecard Metrics, Issues, or To Dos in Strety, giving both sides visibility and accountability.

Note: Rocks or Scorecard Metrics owned by internal resources can be shared and surfaced across client and non-client teams. This is useful for cascading goals and KPIs from each client team into a consolidated internal account managers or success team.

Common use cases for External Users

External Users are most often used for recurring client work and short-term engagements.

Recurring client meetings and QBRs

Use External Users for important clients with recurring meetings or engagements when you want a central place to organize shared action items, Issues, and goals between your team and the client.

Short-term projects or onboarding

Use External Users for short-term engagements, such as onboarding projects, where a client or contractor needs access to your Strety instance for a defined period. When the project is complete, deactivate the External User if they no longer need access.
